What a part-time nanny does
A part-time nanny looks after your children in your home on set days or afternoons each week. In term time that usually means the school pick-up, a snack, homework, clubs and dinner. On full days it can include nursery runs, outings and the bedtime routine. Ours are sporty, so the hours are built around movement and fresh air rather than screens.
Part-time nanny, nanny share or after-school club?
An after-school club is the cheapest option but closes at a fixed time and cares for a group. A nanny share splits one nanny between two families, which lowers the cost but means sharing hours and routines. A part-time nanny works for your family only, on your schedule, and can collect from different schools and take children to their own clubs.
Agency or app for a part-time nanny?
Apps let you search and message nannies yourself, which is cheaper but leaves the vetting, interviewing and cover to you. With us, one of our founders matches you personally, every carer is interviewed face to face, backup care is included when your nanny is ill, and payroll is set up for you.

Common questions
- How much does a part-time nanny cost in London?
- Nanny pay is £15–£20 gross an hour depending on experience. Membership for regular part-time cover runs from £50 a month plus VAT for one day a week to £140 for six or seven, with a four-month minimum. For example, 3 afternoons of 4 hours at £16 an hour comes to around £214 a week including membership, plus any employer National Insurance.
- How many hours is a part-time nanny?
- Anything under full-time. Most of our part-time nannies work 2 to 5 afternoons a week in term time, often 3pm–7pm, or 1 to 3 full days. Membership covers regular roles up to 20 hours a week.
- What if we need more than 20 hours a week?
- Regular Monday to Friday roles over 20 hours a week are placements rather than membership. There's a one-time placement fee of 10% of the nanny's annual gross pay.
- Is a part-time nanny employed by us?
- Usually, yes. A part-time nanny working in your home to your routine counts as your employee, so you run payroll and pay employer National Insurance where it applies. Our membership sets up the payroll for you.
- How much holiday does a part-time nanny get?
- 5.6 weeks a year, pro rata. A nanny on 3 days a week gets 16.8 days. Term-time-only nannies build up holiday at 12.07% of the hours they work. Our nanny holiday entitlement guide has worked examples.
- Can a part-time nanny cover the school holidays too?
- Often, yes, by agreement. If your regular nanny can't, we can place a holiday nanny for half-term, Easter or summer, booked by the week.
- What happens if our part-time nanny is ill?
- Backup care is included in membership, so we arrange cover from our standby pool of vetted carers.
- How are your part-time nannies vetted?
- Every carer has an Enhanced DBS check, First Aid, verified references, ID and Right to Work checks, and a face-to-face interview with us before they meet your family.
